Programa EMISSARY Lançado Oficialmente em Roma
The #EMISSARY (European Military Integrated Space Situational Awareness and Recognition capabilitY) programme was officially launched with a Grant Agreement kick-off meeting recently held in Rome, bringing together over 100 participants from industrial consortium partners, including the Programme Manager from the Italian Ministry of Defence (Ministero della Difesa), the European Commission and the European Defence Agency.
Co-funded by the European Commission, under the European Defence Fund (hashtag#EDF), EMISSARY marks a decisive step towards the development of autonomous and interoperable European capabilities for Space Situational Awareness (hashtag#SSA) in support of defence and security. The project is focused on the development of a network of advanced sensors and a dedicated military Command and Control (C2) software for SSA, enabling the collection, processing, and secure exchange of data. Its objective is to create a shared military Recognised Space Picture (RSP) for operational use, supporting Space operations while ensuring national and European sovereignty over data and decision-making.
Coordinated by Leonardo, the initiative brings together 46 beneficiaries from 13 supporting Member States – including Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Finland, Austria, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Luxembourg, Romania, and Norway. EMISSARY will run for four years with a total value of €158 million.
Building on the achievements of hashtag#EDIDP projects hashtag#INTEGRAL and hashtag#SAURON, EMISSARY will drive the system towards an initial operational capability for military SSA, reflecting Europe’s strategic commitment to enhancing Space security, protecting critical Space assets, and reinforcing its autonomy and competitiveness in the Space sector.

O nosso projeto INOSCOPE foi selecionado para financiamento, juntamente com outras grandes iniciativas.
Nos últimos anos, o número de lançamentos espaciais aumentou exponencialmente, levando a um crescimento do número de objetos em órbita da Terra. A Órbita Terrestre Baixa (LEO) está a tornar-se cada vez mais congestionada, especialmente com o planeamento do lançamento de mega-constelações. Monitorizar os objetos espaciais residentes (RSOs) é essencial para evitar colisões entre satélites e detritos espaciais.
O INOSCOPE enfrentará este desafio com um sistema de telescópio ótico de baixo custo e fácil implementação. Utilizando componentes comerciais disponíveis no mercado (COTS) e software proprietário de processamento de imagem, o sistema irá rastrear e analisar objetos em Órbita Terrestre Baixa (LEO) com estratégias de vigilância personalizadas.

PACS e-Lab is the largest Citizen Science online platform for astronomy, space science education and outreach in Africa. Miracle Chibuzor Marcel’s presentation will highlight some of the activities carried out at PACS e-Lab, including Planetary Defense and asteroid search, exoplanet and photometry research, astrophotography, double star studies, observations using robotic telescopes, and amateur radio contact with astronauts aboard the ISS. www.pacselab.space

ATLAR Lança Projeto LOPES para Desenvolver Sistema Avançado de Rastreio de Objetos Espaciais
Within the scope of the approved application for the notice MPr-2023-10 – SIID – Business R&D – Individual Operations – Low Density, ATLAR will begin, in early 2025, the development of the LOPES project (LEO OPtical TelEscope for Space), aimed at creating an advanced solution for monitoring and tracking space objects in low Earth orbits (LEO), based on optical sensors.
This R&D investment project will receive approximately €400,000 in funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With this initiative, ATLAR reinforces its commitment to driving innovation in the space sector, contributing to the development of entirely novel technological solutions.
